How many days to stay: 2–3 days after treatment, or book close to departure
If you want me to see you again before you fly home, stay in Korea 2–3 more days after the treatment. If photos come first and you don’t plan to come back for a check, you can book the treatment close to your departure day, as long as that day leaves room for the consultation and the treatment itself.
First, mark the dates that can’t move
You don’t need to rush to pick the first or last day. I will ask you to find the dates on this trip that can’t move: a wedding shoot, a gathering, important photos, and your flight out of Korea. Then think about whether you mind temporary redness, needle marks or swelling showing in photos, and whether you want to leave time for me to see you again before you fly home. Those two answers decide whether the appointment goes earlier or later.
Booking the treatment 2–3 days before you leave keeps a chance to be seen again
The value of booking early is not only waiting for swelling to go down. If you have redness, needle marks or swelling after treatment and still have 2–3 days before leaving Korea, I get one more chance to look at your face and judge whether simply watching is enough or something else is needed.
So what these 2–3 days keep is room to “decide after looking”. They are not a shared recovery period for every treatment, and not a fixed deadline for a touch-up or adjustment. Whether any further treatment is needed, and when, still depends on the original treatment and how you are at the time.
Booking close to departure puts your travel photos first
If this trip includes a wedding shoot, a gathering, or you simply want great travel photos, you can finish the photos first and book the treatment close to your departure day. That is a perfectly reasonable choice. It just leaves less time to watch and be seen again in person before you fly home.
When you ask, don’t just say “the last day”. Please give me your flight time too. Having the whole morning free with an evening flight is very different from reaching the clinic in the afternoon and rushing off afterwards. The in-person consultation, the treatment and the travel time to the airport all have to be counted together.
How long each treatment takes and how long reactions usually last
The consultation is not included in the times below and comes on top of them. The table shows the treatment itself (some including numbing cream), not the total time from arriving to leaving; waiting, payment and travel are extra. Reaction periods are the usual range and vary from person to person.
| Treatment | Treatment time | Reactions you may see / what to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Ultherapy | About 60–90 minutes including numbing cream | Possible temporary redness and mild swelling (see the official information in the next section) |
| Thermage FLX | About 60–90 minutes including numbing cream | No set number of days to give; explained at the consultation based on how you are |
| ONDA | About 20–30 minutes for the full face | Hardly any redness; you can go straight back to normal activities |
| InMode | About 30–60 minutes depending on the area | Avoid saunas, hot baths and heavy-sweat exercise for a week |
| Virtue RF | About 1.5 hours including numbing cream | Slight redness and fine scabbing for 2–3 days |
| Rejuran | About 15–30 minutes depending on the area | Small bumps at the needle points mostly settle by that evening, at most 3–4 days |
| Skin booster | About 15–30 minutes | Small bumps at the needle points mostly settle by that evening, at most 3–4 days |
| Fat-dissolving injection | About 10–15 minutes | Most swelling goes down within 4–5 hours; mild swelling clears in 2–3 days |
If your important photo day is only 1–2 days after the treatment, treatments whose reactions last several days are better moved earlier. If you are unsure, tell me your photo day together with the treatments you are considering.
Being able to keep to your plans isn’t the same as looking unchanged on camera
These are two separate standards. Take the official Ultherapy aftercare information as an example: you can return to normal activities right after treatment, and the same information says there may be temporary redness, and mild swelling, tingling or tenderness. Being able to keep to your plans doesn’t mean changes won’t show in close-ups. For other treatments, see the table above rather than reading from the Ultherapy information. If you have important photos, tell the doctor about your camera needs together with the treatments you are considering. See the official Ultherapy aftercare information.
Planning a 5-day, 4-night trip
Say you arrive in Korea on day 1, have important photos on day 3 and fly home on the evening of day 5:
- Photos first: take the day 3 photos first, then ask whether day 4 is available. There is only about 1 day from treatment to departure, so confirm your flight time as well.
- Check-up margin first: ask whether day 2 is available. That leaves about 3 days before you leave Korea on day 5, but temporary reactions may still show in the day 3 photos.
This example only lays out the trade-off. The actual dates still need to be confirmed together with the treatment, the appointment time and your flight time.
Send these 4 items so we can set the dates accurately
- Your arrival date and time in Korea
- Your departure date and flight time
- Important photo sessions or gatherings that can’t move
- The treatments you are already considering; if you haven’t decided, just say so
With these, we can look at your photos, your time in Korea and the treatment on one itinerary. If you are comparing HIFU and RF, first read Thermage vs Ultherapy in Korea, then send your candidate treatments together with your itinerary.
