Gardasil 9 is a vaccine made from protein fragments of nine HPV types. It is injected into the muscle of the upper arm so that your immune system learns these types in advance and makes antibodies, rather than dealing with an infection after it happens. At our clinic, the consultation and the injection are done by the same doctor, who first checks your age, health and past vaccinations and then decides the number of doses and the schedule that suit you. People aged 15 and over usually have three doses, at 0, 2 and 6 months; people aged 9–14 can have two doses, 6–12 months apart, and the physician confirms the actual schedule based on your situation. If you have a fever or an acute infection, we will ask you to wait a while, because at that point it is hard to tell a vaccine reaction apart from the illness you already have; if you are pregnant, we recommend waiting until after you give birth.
