Pitfall: “I have a double chin” is not one single situation
Double chins differ. Some people have loose skin with little fat, some have thick fat, and some are slim everywhere else with fullness collected only under the chin. These three cases suit different treatments, and a single side-profile photo or body weight is not enough to decide in advance.
Whether one ONDA session on a single trip to Korea is worthwhile, and how to read the 12-week point in the research, is covered in whether one ONDA session in Korea is worthwhile. This guide only covers which treatment to choose for a double chin.
Moderate fat with loose skin: ONDA alone works well
ONDA microwave delivers microwave energy into the subcutaneous fat and the dermis. When the amount of fat under the chin is moderate but the skin looks loose because of reduced elasticity, this is the best match, so ONDA alone can be considered first. You can return to your routine right after treatment, though temporary redness or swelling can occur.
Too much fat: ONDA alone loses effect, so add fat-dissolving injections
When there is too much fat, the change from ONDA alone tends to be limited, so I add fat-dissolving injections. With injections, the schedule also needs to allow for needle marks and swelling. More noticeable swelling often subsides within 4–5 hours, while residual swelling lasts about 2–3 days. Individual reactions vary.
If you have photos, a meal or an important event planned, ONDA alone and combination treatment should not use the same recovery schedule. Same-day treatment is also not assumed as a fixed package. It is decided after assessing the amount and distribution of fat and the skin condition.
Little fat elsewhere, fullness only in the double chin: I lean toward InMode
In another pattern, the rest of the cheeks has little fat and the fullness is concentrated only in the double chin. Here InMode can focus the treatment on the double chin alone, so I lean toward InMode. Conversely, if both cheeks down to the lower face have fullness, I still lean toward ONDA. InMode’s FX step uses suction, which may leave red marks or bruising, and saunas and heavy sweating should be avoided for one week afterward. The differences in method, sensation and scheduling are covered in ONDA vs InMode.
Fat only in the double chin but a large amount: decided at consultation
The hardest case is when both conditions overlap: the fullness is only in the double chin, but there is a lot of it. I do not fix an answer in advance for this case. It is decided after seeing the actual amount of fat, its distribution and the skin laxity.
How many joules a double chin needs is also set after seeing the area. Specifications and fees for ONDA, InMode and fat-dissolving injections are listed on our price list.
