Sculptra is an injectable treatment in which PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) is placed in the subcutaneous layer. Once it is in the tissue, it triggers a mild foreign-body reaction that leads fibroblasts to slowly produce new collagen, gradually restoring lost volume bit by bit. We don’t pre-package a number of vials: after each session we wait a few weeks, see how much new collagen has formed, and only then decide the amount for the next one, and the consultation, the treatment design and the injections are all done by the same doctor. If you can only make one trip, you may still feel a change after a single session and decide at your next visit whether to add more; we won’t add vials or shorten the interval to speed things up. It suits people with wide hollow areas such as the cheeks or temples, or with thinning skin, who are fine with the volume filling in slowly over several months. For a single deep groove, or if you want to see a change right away, hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is the better fit, and we may suggest combining the two when needed; if your concern is thinning skin texture, we look at Juvelook first, and if your skin is thick and needs immediate support, we look at Radiesse first. We don’t use Sculptra on the lips or around the eyes (under the eyes or between the brows).
